A Magical Micro Wedding

Danielle, a Brand Manager from Liverpool, and Rob, a Chief Marketing Officer from London, had been friends for years. After a spontaneous dinner – which they thought was like any other night – that friendship quickly to turned to love.

Wedding planning soon followed and after viewing countless venues in central London, they stumbled by chance across Kimpton Fitzroy London and instantly knew it was the place they would start the first day of their happily ever after.

Originally planning a grand wedding for 180 in the heritage-listed ballroom, their plans changed due to COVID – and they scaled back to an intimate micro wedding for 14 people in the light-filled Palm Court. In Danielle’s words “they wouldn’t change it for the world.”

Now over to the bride– who looked absolutely stunning in her Valentini wedding gown– to talk us through her micro wedding day.

How We Met:

I had just moved to London and was looking for a room to rent (that wasn’t ridiculously overpriced and had a slightly bigger sized bedroom than a shoebox). Rob was renting his spare bedroom in his flat, I went to go and see it and the rest, as they say, is history.

We were friends and flatmates for a few years, both of us in and out of relationships, and just enjoying the fact we really liked each other’s company. But one rainy night in London we went for an impromptu dinner after I got a job promotion and realised that maybe there was something more than just friendship between us. Apparently, we were the last to see it, after both sets of parents and friends all said they knew something was between us more than friendship.

A Location Close to our Heart:

Rob has grown up in London and it was my adoptive city, we fell in love in London and built a life there. It felt like the perfect place to get married.

A Wedding Venue We Couldn't Resist:

How couldn’t you choose Kimpton Fitzroy London?! We had been to view so many venues in London and none of them really felt right for us. We went for a drink at Fitz’s on the way home from work and a quick snoop around, and we knew instantly that this was the place for us.

The Palm Court totally floored us, we loved the natural light and the indoor/outdoor feel. The ballroom was just gorgeous and, although our plans changed (downsized from 180 to 14 people due to COVID), we loved the space and light in the room for a wedding.

In the end we had our ceremony and our wedding dinner in the Palm Court with the reception in Fitz’s, we wouldn’t change it for the world. It was perfect, felt intimate and romantic with all of the candlelight bouncing off the mosaic tiles and glass.

All the Magical Moments:

Everyone says your wedding day is a whirlwind and it really is! However, for me the ceremony was just everything I wanted it to be. It was romantic and intimate with just our families and honestly, I still cry tears of joy when I think about it. We had a traditional Jewish ceremony with both of our families under the chuppah.

We had an Israeli singer, singing traditional Jewish wedding music, but with a modern twist, covering popular songs. I walked down to Boi Ba’shalom to the tune of All of Me by John Legend which was so special and really captured how I felt about Rob and the entire day. Rob smashing the glass at the end of our ceremony was followed by The Contours Do You Love Me, which honestly felt so appropriate and a perfect start to our new life together.

Rob managed to keep it all together at the ceremony, but without a doubt his favourite part was a surprise that was organised by our friends and our incredible photographer.

A big part of our lives are all our friends, who we love as our extended family. It was heart-breaking not being able to have them with us to get married and follow so many traditions we had created all together at each other’s weddings (wedding speech bingo anyone?!).

As a surprise, our friends called our wedding photographer, Mike Garrard, and asked him to get us outside on the beautiful steps to the entrance of the hotel at around 5pm for photographs. Well, instead of the couple photographs on the steps, we had all our friends surprise us outside singing and cheering us! Rob cried. I cried. Our father’s cried! We couldn’t believe it; it was incredible and will live on in our memories forever.

We are so lucky to have such amazing family and friends, and the backdrop of Kimpton Fitzroy London was the perfect setting. We have a photo from the moment that I look at and still feel tears prick my eyes when I look at it …. Now I’m a mess!

Our fondest memory of Kimpton Fitzroy London:

The people! Honestly every single person who was working there during our wedding and the weekend was incredible. So wonderful, made it feel like such a special weekend and really looked after us.

When everyone asks us about the venue, we can’t even talk about how gorgeous the hotel is, before we say how wonderful everyone who works there is.
